Over the last 20 years, Wayne Meeten has firmly established himslef as one of the UK’s leading designer silversmiths. His work has won a host of awards, including many prestigious Goldsmiths Crafts Council Design Awards, and his work is in many public and private collections.
Arguably the most striking feature of Wayne’s silver is the clear influence from his time spent in Japan. In 1999 Wayne was offered a place at the prestigious Arts and Crafts University of Japan (Tokyo Geidai) and while he was there he was tutored by the late great Professor Hirotoshi Itoh, the renowned sculptor Mr. Masanbu Kitoh and Mr. Norio Tamagawa who is widely considered to be the leading expert in mokume gane in Japan today. As a result of this extraordinary training Wayne’s subsequent work has displayed a fascinating blend of British craftsmanship and Japanese simplicity. Almost all of Wayne’s work is now to commission only or galleries.
